Cost, hours, and location of progressive chiropractic

Cost and Questions:

What can I expect to pay for my chiropractic care? What is the cost of an exam or a regular office visit? How long is an initial care plan? Will the office hours work with my schedule? Do you do direct billing to insurance? These are all reasonable questions you may have before beginning care and we try to be as transparent as possible by answering them below. Please also feel free to contact our office and speak with our friendly staff to answer any other questions you may have.

You will find that our cost of care is consistent with the British Columbia Chiropractic Association Recommended Fee Guideline.

One difference in our fees from other offices is that our initial appointment actually includes chiropractic xrays. We do these xrays because they help Dr. Mark establish more clearly where issue in the spine are. As a result, we feel we are trying to provide the best, most efficient care we can by using this technology.

Do we bill insurance directly?

Not typically except for WCB, ICBC, and some Green Shield claims. Direct billing is a practice that we have considered but have not done in most cases for several reasons:

1. The potential for poor client experience:

With direct billing we automatically take on the responsibility for letting our patients know what coverage they have and when it runs out. If an insurance company website doesn’t keep ‘running totals’ for a patient’s coverage a claim can be denied when a patient runs out of coverage. When this happens, it puts the patient in the position of unexpectedly owing us money and we are forced to retrieve the outstanding balance from the patient. This can create tension between us and the client when the focus should be on the patient’s health and healing. This is not the comfortable environment we want to create for our clientele.

2. Increased work load on staff and a shift of focus from patient care.

Our staff has a number of tasks and responsibilities to complete on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Their first priority is to provide excellent care when clients come into the office. When their focus is shifted from client service onto billing, it has the potential to lead to staff frustration and lower quality of care. By not hiring extra billing staff we are able to keep costs reasonable for patients by keeping our overhead lower.

3. Puts our clinic at financial risk.

Insurance companies are in the business of making profit, not in keeping good relations with health care providers. That being the case, they are known to deny reimbursement to health care providers, sometimes for petty reasons. Other common issues include delayed payments to health care providers and reimbursement errors that lead to more work for providers. On the other hand, when a patient submits a claim, the insurance company is far less likely to deny coverage because as the client they want your business. Billing at the time of service ensures our long-term security as a clinic. This means that we will be able to provide quality care to you as the patient for years to come!
