Lifestyle for Prevention and Wellness

Lifestyle and Chronic Illness:

Lifestyle and prevention

Lifestyle is the crucial factor in preventing chronic illness. Click to learn more!

Lifestyle is the topic of our monthy newsletter because it affects our health more than any other factor. 78% of our public health care dollars are spent on illness caused by lifestyle-related factors! These figures are backed by research. In fact, in British Columbia alone, the provincial healthcare budget is 19.56 BILLION DOLLARS. This number is likely to continue to rise more and more. Imagine if as a province we were able to reduce this cost through a program of lifestyle change by even just a fraction! What other good projects, people, and infrastructure might we be able to fund if the overall health of our province improved! Imagine if we were able to move just a fraction of these tax dollars to other areas! The possibilities are endless yet we continue to operate in a health care system that seeks to treat disease rather than improve health.

What can you do about it?

Since our healthcare system is not designed to help us improve our level of wellness, we need to do it ourselves. We need to take responsibility for our own health and the health of our families. It is important to remember that this is accomplished by living according to your genetics. Remember, genetics are only responsible for about 3% of all disease because our DNA is programmed for health. It’s poor lifestyle habits and a toxic, stressful environment that causes us to express the genes that cause symptoms. These include things like high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and so on. In other words, your genetics or DNA is rarely to blame.

At our office we try to empower our patients towards wellness with personalized health reports. These reports provide tailored advice for the areas that a patient may need to work on in order to be at their very best. So don’t settle for less than the health you deserve, take ownership for it and take action!
