I’ve experienced abdominal cramps before, but certainly not on a monthly basis.
From a male’s perspective I can only sympathize with the pain inflicted by most women’s monthly cycle and I have to admit, I don’t envy having to experience it.
Certainly a reasonable amount of pain is to be expected with a woman’s menstrual cycle, but why is it that some women seemingly breeze through it while others experience a level of agony that effectively puts them out of commission? Many factors could be at play- hormonal, chemical, stress, and postural to name a few and all bodies are different and react differently to these stresses. Other stresses however include nervous system stress and misalignment of the low back and pelvis as well- and this is where chiropractic can help in a big way. I’ve seen many patients have great results with menstrual cramps and I believe this to be for several reasons:
1. Chiropractic adjustment to the low back can remove irritation and interference to the nerves that supply the uterus allowing for proper function of the uterus.
2. Chiropractic adjustment to the pelvis can restore proper balance and alignment to the pelvis. This helps restore normal tension and blood flow to the ligaments that suspend the uterus to the abdominal wall and to the uterus itself.
Based on my experience, severe menstrual cramps often react positively to chiropractic for the same reason other symptoms do with chiropractic: The restoration of alignment and proper nerve supply to the body in order to allow for full and proper function.
Relying heavily on pain medications merely mask the problem and add to the toxic load that the body must process. If you or someone you love is suffering from an issue like this chiropractic is an excellent avenue to explore and may get to the root cause of the problem. Contact us to learn more!
